Hong Kong – February 12, 2015 – Qlik®, (NASDAQ:QLIK), a leader in data discovery, and KPMG, a global network of professional services firms providing audit, tax and advisory services, has today announced the “Risk Insights Challenge” in Hong Kong. This first of its kind competition is open to students in Years 2, 3 and 4 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), specifically those with Business Intelligence (BI) and risk knowledge, to develop and submit applications built with Qlik solutions that solve real-life business scenarios. Students will be invited to present their ideas to a judging panel, after which six teams will be shortlisted as finalists after two rounds of screening. The winning team will be awarded a ten-week paid summer internship in KPMG’s Hong Kong office, where they can further work on their idea.

“As a firm believer in putting the power of data and analytics into the hands of every user, Qlik is delighted to work with KPMG and HKUST to provide students with the opportunity to experience data discovery – which enables users to find answers to questions they never even thought to ask, ultimately driving business value for organizations,” said Terry Smagh, Managing Director and Vice President, Qlik Asia. “Students will get a hands-on experience with QlikView as well as our newly-launched Qlik Sense, the next generation self-service data visualization application, to help them develop solutions to the business problems they are presented with.”

Students will need to register and join the competition in teams of three (minimum) and four (maximum). They will have the opportunity of pick one of four business problems to work on – namely digital risk, credit risk, business risk, and estimation risk. Throughout the competition, participants will have access to mentors from KPMG and Qlik to obtain business and technical advice in order to help them create Qlik applications to demonstrate their business solutions.

“We are excited to launch the “Risk Insights Challenge” in partnership with Qlik and HKUST. As a financial hub, Hong Kong is an interesting market for the risk management industry, and there is a growing and strong talent pool of analytics professionals. The competition not only allows us to promote innovation in the area of risk management, but also provide students with the opportunity to work with and overcome real business problems,” said James McKeogh, Partner, KPMG China.
